Man Is The Media.
Bosch & Fjord book rated 5/6
Artist duo Bosch & Fjord’s recent publication (self-titled) receives 5 out of 6 stars in a review by Astrid la Cour in Danish newspaper Berlingske Tidende. The duo is a prominent example of ‘organisational artists’ who work in and with the business world. In Denmark alone this field also counts artist/groups ‘democratic innovation’, N55, and Kenneth Balfelt.
La Cour writes (my translation):
“But how can art create meaning in the development of the work environment, and how can one at all add competencies from art to business and thereby create competitive advantages on product-level as well as organisation- and communication-level?”“This very relevant question is not easily answered, but the coorporation between the two artists Rosan Bosch and Rune Fjord Jensen displays concrete examples of how it is possible to unite aesthetics and function in total installations, that allow for art to be a living part of the work place, the school, and other everyday spaces.”
“The book appears (…) as a mix between a smashing coffee table book, a more theoretical oriented book, and a book that pleads for modern management thinking.”
The reason I am quoting this review, is in part that I have a small share in this book, comprised of the article ‘Art at the Bottom Line’ about organisational art and learning (p. 256-259). Should you be interested in this topic, I find this book to be one of the easiest accessible publications about the topic, although it only deals with B&F’s projects.
You can get your copy of the book by ordering it from their site here.
For more information on ‘organisational art’, you should read this abstract.
